Charlton Spotlight #9 Cover, featuring an all-new, original Snuffy Smith comic book story that I wrote and illustrated This is the first "Snuffy Smith" comic book story in 45 years! Great balls o' fire! I've been holding this under wraps for awhile and now I am so happy to finally announce the first brand-new "Snuffy Smith" comic book story in 45 years! Longtime fans of the strip may remember that many years ago, Snuffy also appeared in comic book form with a few different comic book publishers. The last time our pals from Hootin' Holler were in an American comic book was in the 1970's when Snuffy had his own comic book with Charlton Comics. This ran for for many issues. I remember reading some of these as a child and thoroughly enjoying every page. So, imagine my excitement when I was asked by Michael Ambrose, editor of Charlton Spotlight, if I would be interested in creating a new "Snuffy Smith" story for his publication! I was thrilled! I wrote and illustrated "Hopalong Jughaid," a 10-page new, original story that brings our classic comic strip back to the comic book pages in Charlton Spotlight #9! It was such a joy to step outside of the usual 2 or 3 panels I work with every day and write a 10-page adventure for our characters. I decided to create a funny, action-packed story starring Snuffy's nephew, Jughaid and his pet frog, Freddy. Not to give too much away, but it also features many fun animal characters including a big ol' bear named Gus, Ol' Snort, Aunt Sukey and Spark Plug, just to name a few. I really think you will enjoy it! In addition to Charlton Spotlight editor, Mike Ambrose, I'd also like to thank my longtime editor at King Features, Brendan Burford, for his help with this project, as well. This exciting issue also features a new "Atomic Rabbit" story by George Wildman Creative Studios with script and inks by "Lum and Abner" cartoonist Donnie Pitchford! It's an honor for me to be featured alongside George (who wrote and illustrated the "Popeye" comic book for years) and Donnie. Charlton Spotlight #9 is shipping December 2015!
